The Yndrellin are a small and enigmatic people whose presence has long been intertwined with the stone halls of the Khorrundar. While surface dwellers often overlook them or mistake them for lesser kin of the dwarves, records preserved by the Amariin describe the Yndrellin as a distinct race whose role within dwarven civilization is both sacred and enduring.

Their origins remain uncertain. No surviving record speaks clearly of their first appearance in the world, and even the oldest Khorrundar histories describe them not as newcomers but as companions already present within the early mountain halls. For this reason, many Amariin archivists classify their origin as lost to time.

Physically, the Yndrellin are small and slender, rarely exceeding four and a half feet in height. Their bodies appear delicate compared to the dense form of the Khorrundar, yet their hands possess remarkable steadiness and precision. Their skin is smooth, their hair often sparse or absent, and their eyes carry a faint luminescence that is frequently remarked upon in recorded observations. Their ears are elongated and their speech is measured, slow, and melodic.

The Yndrellin are renowned for their craftsmanship, though their works differ from the heavy engineering and forgecraft of the Khorrundar. Instead, they specialize in subtle adornments and sacred finishing work. Jewelry, carved embellishments, ceremonial engravings, and spiritual relics are commonly attributed to their careful hands.

Among dwarven halls, it is believed that the Yndrellin possess a rare sensitivity to the spiritual resonance of crafted objects. Though they do not wield arcane magic in the traditional sense, their work is often said to carry quiet blessings — a harmony between craftsmanship and the divine that cannot be easily explained.

Yndrellin culture values silence, memory, reverence, and precision. Their communities are organized into quiet conclaves guided by elder artisans rather than rulers. Family legacy is preserved through the works each generation creates, and the passing of knowledge occurs through patient mentorship rather than formal hierarchy.

Violence is rare among them. While not incapable of defending themselves, Yndrellin tradition discourages aggression, emphasizing instead the preservation of beauty and memory within a world often shaped by conflict.

Their lifespan rivals that of the Khorrundar, often reaching seven centuries, allowing artisans to devote centuries to mastering their craft.

Amariin Annotation

Certain Khorrundar traditions claim the Yndrellin were shaped by the goddess Vellura, whose domains include beauty, memory, and the sacred unseen. According to these stories, she created them not as rulers or warriors, but as keepers of beauty within a harsh and often brutal world.

This belief may explain why the Yndrellin appear almost exclusively within dwarven realms. Their presence is often described as complementary to Khorrundar culture — where dwarves build the foundations of stone, the Yndrellin give those halls grace, memory, and quiet reverence.

One rare lineage known as the Mira’leth-bound is said to arise when an artisan completes a work believed to have received direct blessing from Vellura. These individuals are thought to pass subtle spiritual favor through their bloodline, though confirmation of this phenomenon remains disputed.
