Kharelion is the eternal judge of mortal souls, the being before whom every life must stand when its final breath fades.
Neither god nor demon entirely, Kharelion embodies the balance between celestial grace and infernal consequence. His form reflects this dual nature — one half radiant and angelic, the other charred and demonic — a living manifestation of the scales he bears.
At the moment of death, the soul is brought before Kharelion’s Scale. There it is measured against the weight of its deeds. The soul itself does not speak; truth reveals itself in the balance.
Most souls are neither pure nor damned. These are sent to Purgatory, where centuries of grey flame and silent reflection temper the soul before it may pass onward.
Those who rise beyond the scale are released into the Firmament, where Nymariel receives them among the celestial realms.
Those who fall irredeemably into corruption descend toward Nytheris, where the dominion of Velkaara awaits.
Kharelion himself does not follow the souls he judges. He does not celebrate redemption nor relish damnation. His role is singular and eternal.
He measures.
And the next soul always waits.
Amariin Annotation
Records of Kharelion appear in the funerary rites of nearly every known culture in Serathorne. Even civilizations that deny the existence of gods still acknowledge the concept of the final weighing.
Several sects claim that Kharelion was once mortal — an impossible assertion given the consistency of his appearance across the earliest divine records.
The Amariin preserve no evidence supporting this claim.
